We were recently made aware that non-profit organizations such as Kayak Anglers (501 c 3 organization) are required to issue IRS Form 1099-Misc for any prizes and awards totaling $600 or more. Moving forward, if any angler (regardless if they are a paid member or a guest) will be issued a 1099-Misc if they win any prizes (valued at fair market value) and cash awards totaling more than $600. For example, if an angler wins a fishing rod valued at $150.00 and also wins a cash prize of $451.00 for winning the Big Bass pot (total of $601.00) KA will issue a 1099-Misc. Prizes and awards include Early Bird registration prizes, charity raffle prizes, tournament prizes, online prizes, etc. KA will track each angler’s winnings and issue the 1099-Misc at the end of the season if they exceed the $600 threshold. We will reach out to you to get the necessary information to complete the form. After KA completes the form, we will issue the angler the 1099-Misc. Please keep in mind anglers who are issued a 1099-Misc must declare these winnings and prizes on their income tax forms. By Checking below you agree and understand these terms.
